CAN I DRINK THE WATER?

One of the most common questions I get from families travelling to a different country is “Can we drink the water?”

Infants, toddlers and even some parents have stomachs that are sensitive and react to the slightest change in food and water. Breast feeding moms may be concerned about the water safety as well.

The safest thing to do is drink bottled water only, if you have any concerns. This means no slushy drinks or drinks with ice cubes either. Any food rinsed with tap water that isn’t cooked should also be avoided; fruit that can’t be peeled and raw veggies including salads.

If you have any doubts, contact the hotel you'll be staying at and they can advise you on the safety of their tap water. Some resorts in Mexico filter their water onsite so it is drinkable. Let them know you are travelling with a toddler or infant and they may be able to put a kettle in your room so you can boil the water.
